Fairfax Home School Athletic Association
Volleyball Program Information
The objective of the FHS volleyball program is to develop highly competitive athletes while encouraging them to grow in their pursuit of Christ. FHS fields girls volleyball teams at the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity levels.
FHS competes in the Northern Virginia Independent Athletic Conference (nviac.com) and with the Virginia Home School Athletic Association (vhsaa.net). We play regular season games against teams within our conferences, in addition to outside teams. FHS participates in championship tournaments for both conferences, and in the East Coast Nationals Tournament (hspn.net), where we compete against homeschool teams from up and down the east coast.
Conditioning: Volleyball conditioning for high school takes place two week-day evenings per week (For the 2022 season it will be Tuesdays and Fridays at Little Run Elementary School) and runs from May to mid-June. Middle school conditioning begins in mid-June (more details regarding days and location to come). All athletes interested in playing on an FHS volleyball team are invited to participate in the conditioning season. Participation in the conditioning period does not commit an athlete to participation in the competition season. The goal of conditioning is to give athletes an opportunity to improve volleyball skills while also getting a feel for what the volleyball program is like prior to considering, if offered, a spot on the team. It also gives coaches an opportunity to evaluate players for team selection.
Tryouts: The entire conditioning season is taken into consideration when athletes are selected for teams. Athletes who are serious about playing FHS volleyball should attend all or as many conditioning sessions as possible, but must attend a minimum of two sessions.
Season: Practices take place 2-3 nights per week and begin in June (high school) and August (middle school). Games begin in late November and go through early to mid-March. The FHS home game facility is Laurel Ridge Elementary School and away games are held at schools and facilities in and around northern Virginia. Longer travel distances should be anticipated for VHSAA and HSPN tournaments, as well as for some regular season games.
1) Registration fee: $30, must be paid before an athlete can participate in conditioning or tryouts.
2) Season fee: Final fee for the year will be determined based on budget and communicated during tryouts (historically between $400 and $700 per athlete). Once a spot on the team is offered, the athlete has 48 hours to accept the spot on the team and pay season fees.
Equipment: Each athlete should have a pair of dedicated shoes that are used only on indoor courts (they need not be shoes designed specifically for volleyball, but should be used only on indoor courts). Athletes should also have knee pads and a volleyball. Uniforms will be provided by FHS.
