2025
The FHS softball team offers an opportunity for homeschool girls in grades 8 to 12 to compete at a varsity level. (The program is also open to private school girls, if their school does not offer softball as a sport.) Although the team will play at a varsity level, younger athletes will have an opportunity to grow and develop. The coaching staff will endeavor to provide young players game-like opportunities, including scrimmages against other JV teams when possible. Playing time will ultimately be determined by talent level.
Preseason Workouts
Winter workouts at SixFour3 in Manassas are ongoing on Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7 pm. There will not be winter workouts on December 26 and January 2. Otherwise, the workouts will continue every Thursday through February 20. If the weather allows on other weekdays – temperature above 50 – we will work outdoors at Nottoway Park in Vienna, before shifting to South Run in Fairfax in early March.
Tryouts
While “official” tryout dates will occur the last week of February, preseason conditioning events are an important part of the tryout process. At the end of tryouts, players who qualify for the team will receive official offers. A player receiving an offer will understand season expectations and the role she is anticipated to play during the season. Some players will receive a primary practice offer.
Cost
The cost for preseason registration is $50. The preseason registration fee is required regardless of whether you participate in preseason activities. The season fees will depend upon the number of players chosen and number of games scheduled, but registration will probably not exceed $700. Each girl will buy her own home and away jerseys and pants and be able to use them for multiple seasons, as long as she does not desire a number change. The uniform will hopefully not exceed $150.
Season
The goal will be to play a 20-game varsity season, including a nationally recognized tournament each year, with games starting in early March and the season concluding in mid-May. As the schedule allows, we will schedule JV games to provide playing opportunities for less experienced players. This Spring, we hope to participate in this tournament: https://www.nacasports.net/softball.html
Expectations
FHS is a Christ-centered organization, and players and coaches will live and play in a manner worthy of a Christian calling. This will include regular devotions and prayer. Currently, the team is reading through the Psalms at each practice, with a brief discussion.
