Boys Soccer Information

Varsity Coach: Mary Knight

Middle School Coach: Juan Hernandez

Season Dates (est.): The soccer preseason begins in early July. The competition season runs from early September through the end of October.

Preseason Practice information: Pre-season practices will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays (middle school) and Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (high school) from 3:00-5:00 during the month of July. Practices will take place at South Run Park. Registration must be completed and the $50 fee paid prior to participating in pre-season conditioning or try-outs.

Tryouts: All of the preseason practices are considered in assessing athletes for positions on the team. Athletes should make an effort to be at as many of the preseason practices as possible.  After the last preseason practice, an email will be sent notifying athletes whether or not they were selected to be a part of the team. Players must accept or decline the invitation within 24 hours of being notified so that season costs can be finalized.

Cost: The season fee is likely to be $350-$450. The total season expenses are divided among the number of athletes on the team and an exact cost will be given when the number of athletes has been confirmed.

Game information: Home games will be held at South Run Park in Springfield. Away games will take place at various locations in Northern Virginia, including Woodbridge, Manassas, Middleburg, Leesburg, and Ashburn.

Tournaments: Soccer teams will participate in two tournaments this season. The first is the VHAC state tournament, which will be held here in Fairfax County on 9/25-9/26. The second is our local NVIAC tournament that will take place the week of 10/20 (schedule will be determined by the standings at the end of the season and may not be entirely set until the week before).

Assistant/Manager info: We will be looking for an assistant coach and for a team manager. Team manager duties can be delegated by the manager to other parents on the team. Duties include:

  • Sending out a weekly e-mail with important information and scheduling details

  • Helping to distribute uniforms at the beginning of the season and collecting them at the end.

  • Ensuring that volunteer duties (scorebook, line judges, etc.) are organized for each game.

  • Taking or recruiting someone to take some game and team photos during the season.

  • Planning (or delegating) an end of season party.

Two-Adult Policy: FHS requires two adults to be present for all activities. Coaches may need a parent to stay for some practices in order to fulfill that requirement. They will notify the team prior to practice if an extra adult is needed. Please be willing to take a turn, if needed.

Uniforms/Equipment: Uniforms are the property of FHS. They will be issued at the beginning of the season and must be returned at the end of the season. Each player will also be issued two paris of socks (one white and one black), which do not need to be returned.

SportsEngine: FHS uses the SportsEngine platform for scheduling and communication. After registering for the preseason, please download the SportsEngine Team Management app and sign in using the same credentials used to register on the FHS website. You should see your child’s team listed when you sign in to the app. It is essential that everyone has the app, as its messaging function will be used to communicate last minute changes or updates to the team.
