The FHS Hawks Girls Tennis program aims to develop competitive homeschool tennis players and help athletes grow in pursuing Jesus Christ. The Tennis program is a high school varsity program (with hopes to offer a junior varsity program in the future as the program grows). All homeschool players grades 7-12 are welcome to try out for a roster spot. As a team, we are a community that is committed to spurring one another on to grow in our athletic abilities, as well as in our personal, and spiritual lives. Coaches and athletes are expected to extend support and accountability to each other as we seek to honor God through competitive athletics.
Conditioning: Pre-season conditioning takes place in July and August. Our goals during this time are to build an aerobic base and develop groundstrokes. We learn warm-ups, tennis lingo, stroke development & match play basics.
Tryouts: All preseason practices are taken into account when selecting players for the team.
Season: August - October
Matches: We play 10-12 matches against private schools in the NOVA area.
Match Play: 6 singles & 3 doubles. Exhibition matches for all others when possible.
Practices: Practices are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:45 at Lake Braddock Secondary School. Practices will be canceled 1 hour in advance if courts are unplayable.
Athletes are expected to engage in some type of fitness program the other 3 days of the week, to include cardio, weights, stretching & agility.
Costs:
1) Registration fee: $50, must be paid before an athlete can participate in conditioning or tryouts.
2) Season fee: The season fee covers court fees, balls, insurance, etc. & is generally about $300-350. Once a spot on the team is offered, the athlete has 48 hours to accept the spot on the team by paying the fee.
Other Equipment: Uniform shirts are issued by FHS and must be returned at the end of the season. Athletes should provide their own black shorts /skirts. Tennis/court shoes, racquet & racquet bag are provided by the athlete.
